Organisation

The LUCERNE REGATTA Association was founded in 1903 and has shaped rowing in Lucerne ever since. Since 1933, the regattas have been held on the Rotsee – a natural venue internationally renowned for its fair racing conditions and distinctive atmosphere. For more than a century, the LUCERNE REGATTA Association and the LUCERNE REGATTA have played a significant role in international rowing history.

Lucerne hosted the first World Rowing Championships in 1962 and welcomed the world’s elite again in 1974, 1982, 2001, and will do so once more in 2027. In addition, Lucerne has hosted the European Rowing Championships on several occasions and is also the venue for the Swiss Rowing Championships.

As a leading international sporting event in the heart of Lucerne, the LUCERNE REGATTA makes a valuable contribution to society – promoting physical activity, bringing together people from different cultures, and strengthening both tourism and the regional economy.

With an investment of CHF 16 million, the infrastructure at the Rotsee has been modernised and further developed in harmony with its natural surroundings and recreational character.

The organizing committee of the LUCERNE REGATTA consists of around 50 former top athletes, active rowers and rowing enthusiasts from all over Switzerland. Together they combine sporting experience, organizational know-how and a great passion for rowing.

The Board of the LUCERNE REGATTA Association is responsible for the strategic development of the regatta and is composed of experienced individuals with a long-standing connection to the sport of rowing.

Office

Since August 2022, the Organising Committee of the LUCERNE REGATTA has been supported by a professional administrative office, ensuring the structured planning and delivery of the event. The office is headed by Timon Wernas, who, as Managing Director, is responsible for the operational management.

The administrative office is run by athletics sportconsulting GmbH. With its extensive expertise in sports and event management, ASC supports the LUCERNE REGATTA in maintaining the highest sporting and organisational standards while contributing to the continued development of the event – including with a view to future major events such as the World Rowing Championships 2027 at the Rotsee.

Rowing center

The Rowing Centre at the Rotsee forms the infrastructural heart of the regatta course and serves as a central hub for the sport of rowing. Following its comprehensive modernisation between 2012 and 2016, the facility now provides state-of-the-art conditions for both training and competition. The centre is owned and operated by the Lucerne – Rotsee Rowing Centre Foundation, which has been closely associated with the regatta’s history for decades. In addition to the Rowing Centre, the foundation also encompasses the Finish Tower, the Urs Fankhauser Lounge, and other regatta-specific facilities.
