World Rowing Championships 2027 seeking Swiss clubs to host training camps <\/h1>

The 2027 World Rowing Championships will take place at the Rotsee in Lucerne. As the host nation, we want to enable as many teams as possible to prepare ideally for this major regatta. <\/p><\/div>

Next year, the World Rowing Championships will return to Lucerne. From 23-29 August 2027, the international elite will compete for medals. As the key qualification event for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, it is an exceptionally important regatta. We want to help as many participating nations as possible to prepare well. Here’s how your rowing club can support the effort. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

A familiar format for some Swiss clubs<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

Every year, several major rowing nations already use Switzerland’s rowing infrastructure for training camps when preparing for the LUCERNE REGATTA. For example, the New Zealand team is a regular guest at Seeclub Sursee. For nations from overseas in particular, the aim is to bridge the time between two regattas in Europe and to acclimatise optimally to the climate and time zone. Ahead of the 2027 World Rowing Championships we expect many more nations – and, accordingly, additional requests for preparatory training camps. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Especially important for smaller nations<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

While the major rowing nations often already have established contacts with Swiss clubs, smaller nations – where rowing is not yet as established as it is in Australia, Canada or Switzerland – rely on support. These teams take part in<\/span> World Rowing’s <\/span>Development Programme.<\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n

‘The programme includes, among other things, training camps before every World Championships,’ explains Timon Wernas. He is the Director of the LCUERNE REGATTA and caries out the same role for the 2027 World Championships. ‘As hosts in 2027, we also want to support the “smaller” federations with good training opportunities.’ <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

For regulatory and logistical reasons, a large training camp on the Rotsee cannot take place before the World Championships. Therefore, the Development Teams are to get on the water at various Swiss clubs. ‘We hope that clubs from all over Switzerland will be ready to help,’ says Wernas. ‘We hope that clubs from all over Switzerland will be ready to help,’ says Wernas. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

A win for everyone<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

For national coordination of the Development Programme, the Organising Committee has brought in well-known volunteers. Olympic champion Simon Niepmann is working together with long-time Rotsee commentator Paul Castle. ‘Hosting a training camp for foreign teams is a great opportunity for clubs,’ says Niepmann. ‘Members can not only build international contacts, but also broaden their experience in a high-performance training environment.’ <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The small Development Teams travel with their own coaches. But host clubs have the opportunity to observe and complement their work. Suitable club boats can train alongside the guests; and the wider membership can get to know the international visitors over a shared meal or an excursion. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Niepmann and Castle envisage the training camps taking place roughly from 14-19 August 2027. Interested clubs can obtain further information – including on the possible participation of para-athletes – via Paul Castle. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
