The competition was particularly tight between positions 5–10, with only 3 points separating them. See-Club Zug, racing on home waters in Cham, was in 8th place in the interim rankings and had a clear challenge ahead. With a very convincing heat and the fastest time, they demonstrated that they wanted to take full advantage of their home-field advantage. The crew from Club de l’Aviron Vevey also showed a strong heat and signaled their ambitions for a spot in the final.
The final on Sunday almost fell victim to the overnight Föhn wind. Fortunately, the jury, together with the organizing committee and coaches, decided to delay the races by one hour, allowing the event to proceed under challenging but still rowable conditions. See-Club Zug once again delivered an outstanding performance and immediately took the lead after the start. Seeclub Zürich, which started quickly as well, was in second place for a long time. Club de l’Aviron Vevey also had a strong first half of the race and managed to move up to second place for a while. In the second half of the race, Seeclub Luzern showed the highest boat speed and, stroke by stroke, began to close the gap to the leading boat from Zug. However, the Zug team was too fast for the competition, winning their home race with just over 2 seconds ahead of Seeclub Luzern and Club de l’Aviron Vevey.
